This non-exempt role involves reviewing daily orders, preparing and replenishing bakery items efficiently while maintaining product freshness and appearance. The Bakery Clerk is expected to engage customers warmly, providing courteous and friendly assistance that enhances their shopping experience. This position reports to the Bakery Department Manager, as well as district and store leadership. The clerk works closely with team members to foster a pleasant work environment geared toward satisfying customer needs. The Bakery Clerk at Hy-Vee plays a multifaceted role. They greet customers with a smile, learn and use customers' names when possible, and assist with various needs such as escorting shoppers to desired products or retrieving items from high shelves. The role requires operating bakery registers and handling payments where applicable. Maintaining a clean and organized work area in compliance with sanitation procedures is critical, as is adherence to company policies on personal hygiene and dress. The job also involves physical activities such as lifting, standing, and repetitive motions consistent with bakery tasks. The working conditions include exposure to flour dust, noise, temperature extremes, and cleaning chemicals, requiring a readiness to perform medium physical work. • Must be able to perform medium work exerting up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, 20 pounds of force frequently, and 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects
