We are currently seeking a dedicated full-time Baker to join Brown University’s Dining Services team. This important role focuses on the production of baked goods and desserts for dining room menus and catered functions, adhering to proper culinary techniques and standardized recipes under the supervision of the production team lead. The Baker will utilize expert baking skills and operations knowledge to prepare various items such as doughs, batters, fillings, frostings, and pastries including Danish Puff Paste and Cream Puff Dough. The position requires fast and efficient bench work, meticulous attention to sanitation, food safety procedures, and the ability to operate and maintain bake shop equipment safely. The Baker will also assist in coordinating team tasks and contribute to continuous improvement by learning advanced baking responsibilities. This role is based onsite, offers a 40-hour weekly schedule with union dining services rates, and is a regular employee position with Brown University. - Ability to read, write and communicate effectively in English
- Ability to understand symbols of weight and measure and convert volume and weight measures in recipes
- One-year experience as Baker's Helper or equivalent mastery of basic scratch baking functions
- Two years of post-secondary Culinary School attendance preferred
- Neat and clean appearance
- Willingness to promote a diverse and inclusive campus community
- Ability to stand for extended periods
- Ability to lift and move up to 50 pounds
- Ability to push or pull carts weighing up to 75 pounds
- Ability to tolerate extreme heat and cold
- Must consistently use all Personal Protective Equipment as per guidelines
- Must wear cut resistant gloves when using sharp tools
- Ability to perform required tasks with speed, efficiency, safety and accuracy
