The Baker position, located at the UT Main Campus, is a full-time role with a weekly schedule of 40 hours. This position is essential to supporting the daily bakery production operations within University Housing and Dining. Reporting directly to the Sous Chef, the Baker will assist in the planning, preparation, and execution of a variety of baked goods, including breads, pastries, cakes, as well as the preparation and application of frostings, icings, and glazes to ensure an appealing and high-quality final product. Working in a fast-paced, high-volume environment, the candidate must be capable of reading and comprehending complex recipes including conversions, executing instructions independently while maintaining waste reduction and optimum freshness standards.
In addition to baking responsibilities, the Baker will help manage product transfers and requisitions for bakery stock and maintain accurate production and waste documentation daily. Maintaining cleanliness and safety in all bakery areas, including hot and cold storage, is a key part of the role. The Baker will collaborate closely with kitchen staff to ensure timely and efficient food service, emphasizing the importance of hygienic practices, proper labeling, storage, temperature monitoring, and preventing cross-contamination.
A deep commitment to compliance is required, including adherence to all University and UHD policies related to training, time and attendance, food safety protocols such as Texas Food Handler Safety requirements, and proper use of personal protective equipment (PPE). Additional duties may be assigned as needed to support UHD’s mission and operational goals. The successful candidate will also be expected to work under varying temperature conditions, use manual dexterity, handle materials up to 62 pounds, climb stairs and ladders, and pass strength and agility testing prior to employment.
This position offers a salary starting at $41,600 plus, depending on qualifications. The anticipated hire date is ongoing, with the position expected to continue long term.
