The open position is for a Pilot specialized in SPIFR (Special Purpose IFR), NVG (Night Vision Goggles) operations, particularly in Helicopter Air Ambulance (HAA) missions utilizing the state-of-the-art Leonardo AW169 helicopter. This role is based in Dayton, Ohio, within the Flight Operations department, involving a rotational shift schedule of 7 days on and 7 days off, providing pilots with a balanced work-life schedule. The position reports directly to the Pilot Program Lead and is classified as exempt under FLSA guidelines. The pilot will conduct both day and night flights in challenging conditions, applying their expertise in rotorcraft operation, especially with SPIFR procedures and NVG equipment. Responsibilities include managing the safety and efficiency of medical transport flights under Part 135 regulations, working closely with medical crews to ensure the rapid yet secure transfer of critically ill or injured patients. Candidates will participate actively in mission planning, risk assessment, pre-flight and post-flight inspections, and maintain strong crew resource management (CRM) practices with the mission pilot in command role. The position demands excellent situational awareness, sound decision-making skills, and a strong commitment to safety at all times. Pilots must hold a commercial rotorcraft-helicopter certificate (ATP preferred), a first-class FAA medical certificate, and current NVG qualification or experience within the last 24 months. Instrument helicopter rating and U.S. citizenship or legal work authorization are mandatory. Applicants should have a minimum of 2000 total helicopter flying hours, including 1000 hours as pilot in command, 100 hours night flying, 75 hours actual/simulated instrument, and preferably 50 hours of NVG time. Additional preferred experience includes EMS or HAA operations, Part 135 instructor or check pilot roles, CRM and AMRM training, familiarity with the AW169 platform, and a comprehensive understanding of FAA regulations, Safety Management Systems (SMS), and risk management strategies. HeliService USA supports pilot development through annual training, compliance updates, and a thorough line training program required before official deployment. Employment is contingent upon successful completion of all mandated training and passing DOT/FAA pre-employment drug screening. The work environment is in-person at the Dayton location, with some physical demands and potential exposure to aviation-related risks.
