AECOM is a global infrastructure consulting firm dedicated to delivering a better world through transformative projects that improve community infrastructure, enhance transportation, provide reliable energy, and ensure access to clean water. With a vast network of over 50,000 professionals including planners, designers, engineers, scientists, and digital innovators, AECOM collaborates with public and private sector clients to solve complex challenges and build lasting legacies. The company has a strong focus on sustainable and resilient solutions across the entire project lifecycle, from advisory, planning, and design to engineering, program, and construction management. As a Fortune 500 firm with revenues of $16.1 billion in fiscal year 2024, AECOM is a leader in infrastructure development with a presence that spans the globe. The role of Aviation Project Engineer at AECOM is pivotal in leading airfield design projects for some of the most significant airports in the United States such as LAX, SFO, SMF, SJC, and others. This position involves overseeing the design delivery for major airfield improvements that encompass runways, taxiways, aprons, and related infrastructure. Unlike typical project roles, this is an end-to-end leadership position responsible for managing projects from initial planning through to construction completion. The engineer will navigate complex phasing requirements, regulatory compliance including FAA standards, and incorporate long-term infrastructure investment strategies. The position demands a highly experienced engineer who will guide multidisciplinary teams in developing engineering packages related to paving, grading, drainage, utilities, lighting, and signage. This role also includes preparing and sealing construction documents in alignment with FAA Advisory Circulars, thus ensuring strict adherence to quality and safety standards. Collaboration with various stakeholders such as contractors, planners, clients, subconsultants, and regulatory authorities is essential to successfully deliver project objectives. Mentoring junior staff and maintaining productive team dynamics across multiple concurrent projects are fundamental to this role. AECOM’s aviation design team works on high-value multi-year capital programs often exceeding $100 million and sometimes surpassing $1 billion. The team is embedded in projects delivering complex and highly visible airport developments, reinforcing AECOM’s reputation as an industry leader in airport infrastructure. The Aviation Project Engineer uses advanced tools such as AutoCAD Civil 3D to oversee the production of key design elements and ensures that all designs are feasible, phased effectively, and delivered on time. Working at AECOM opens opportunities for professional growth in an environment that values innovation, diversity, and inclusion. The company offers comprehensive benefits including medical, dental, vision, life insurance, paid time off, retirement savings plans, and employee stock purchase plans. Relocation support is available for this role; however, visa sponsorship is not offered. AECOM fosters a culture built on respect, collaboration, and career development, supporting employees’ ambitions to make a real impact through groundbreaking projects at both local and global scales. Join AECOM to be part of a global team creating meaningful infrastructure that transforms communities and shapes the future.
