The City of Charlotte is currently seeking to hire an Aviation Layer 1 Infrastructure Lead within its Aviation Department, specifically supporting the Network Operations and Infrastructure function. This role is a full-time position offering a competitive salary range of $91,736.00 to $114,670.00 annually, commensurate with experience. The ideal candidate will play a pivotal role in maintaining and enhancing the technological backbone for the city’s airport infrastructure. The Aviation Layer 1 Infrastructure Lead’s core responsibilities include installing, configuring, maintaining, and troubleshooting network devices, with a specialized focus on Layer 1 cabling infrastructure for switch networks and virtual server environments. This role encompasses a broad range of essential duties such as managing wireless connectivity solutions, responding to network and VPN issues, installing and supporting voice networks and related components, and supporting the planning and maintenance of the airport's data centers. The position also involves overseeing telecommunications infrastructure projects from design through implementation, coordinating with contractors and stakeholders, and ensuring adherence to industry and code standards through audits. The Aviation Layer 1 Infrastructure Lead is expected to maintain extensive documentation and inventories while managing preferred vendors and contractor relationships related to cabling services across the airport campus. Working closely with airport consultants and engineers, this position contributes strategically to the future planning and upgrading of telecommunications systems and standards at the airport, ensuring that all infrastructure supports the airport’s operational demands reliably and securely. The role also involves leadership responsibilities that include guiding and potentially supervising other employees to ensure high-quality work outputs and effective training. Candidates should have a deep knowledge of networking fundamentals, modern office and security practices, and telecommunications design and maintenance principles.   • Valid U.S. driver's license with a minimum of 3 years verifiable driving history
  • High school diploma or equivalent with 7 years relevant experience OR Associate's degree and 5 years of relevant experience OR Bachelor's Degree and 3 years relevant experience
  • Ability to obtain and maintain airport security credentials including customs seal endorsement and SIDA credentials
  • Willingness to pass federal background check and drug screening
