The Cook position at the Austin Airport is a pivotal role within HMSHost’s food and beverage team. This role demands proficiency in preparing a variety of cooked foods across several kitchen stations such as Fry, Flat Top Griddle, Pantry, and egg cooking stations. The Cook ensures the consistent delivery of high-quality food products by closely following recipes, seasoning, tasting, and cooking instructions as well as managing food safety and sanitation through adherence to HACCP standards. Effective communication with the manager on duty and serving staff is critical for timely ticket management and problem-solving. As a non-exempt position, it necessitates an ability to perform in a fast-paced, high volume casual dining environment while maintaining superior service standards for customers and team members alike. This role requires hands-on expertise in food preparation that includes tasks such as seasoning, carving, monitoring production requirements, cleaning and sanitizing workspaces, and operating kitchen equipment. It also demands physical stamina including lifting up to 40 pounds, bending, twisting, and enduring hot working environments frequently encountered in kitchen settings. The Cook contributes to overall kitchen efficiency by participating in stock rotation, temperature checks, and ensuring a clean, safe kitchen operation environment. HMSHost values candidates who bring at least one year of related cooking experience, preferably in high volume casual dining contexts, alongside knowledge of soups, sauté, broiler, fry, and pantry food preparation techniques.
