Assistant Chef: REGIONS Site Secure Residential Treatment Program for Male Youth

The Assistant Chef role is situated within the REGIONS Site Secure Residential Treatment Program for Male Youth located in Hamden, CT. This program delivers secure residential treatment for up to 16 male youth with a focus on trauma-informed, culturally responsive, gender-specific, and strengths-based care. The goal of this treatment philosophy is to help youth improve their social, emotional, and physical well-being while therapeutically intervening to break the cycle of offending and reduce risk factors that could lead them into the adult justice system. Youth in this high-risk program often present with patterns of violence, complex treatment needs, and high risks of elopement or public safety concerns. 
The Assistant Chef's primary responsibilities include assisting in planning and preparing three nutritious, home-like meals daily for approximately 20 youth and staff members. This role is vital in supporting a safe and healthy food environment, adhering to state and local health regulations including fire safety and sanitation standards. Additional tasks involve assisting with food inventory and order preparation, complying with dietary requirements set by licensed dietitians, providing vocational training to youth on food preparation and safety, and modeling pro-social behaviors. The ideal candidate will have at least one year of experience in food ordering and meal preparation, familiarity with Connecticut’s food service regulations, and the ability to serve as a role model for youth in a residential treatment setting. Bilingual proficiency in English and Spanish is preferred. This position works a schedule from Saturday to Wednesday, 10:00 AM to 6:00 PM, offering an hourly rate of $23.67, which equates to an annual salary of approximately $49,224 based on 40 hours per week.                 - High school diploma or GED
 - At least one year of experience with food ordering and meal preparation in a group setting
 - Clear understanding of Connecticut’s food service regulations
 - Certified Qualified Food Operator or ability to qualify
 - Capacity to provide vocational training to program youth
 - Ability to interact with multi-cultural populations
 - Decision making, communication, interpersonal and organizational skills
 - Adaptability, flexibility, resourcefulness, and emotional intelligence
 - Must share belief in people’s capacity to change
 - Valid CT driver’s license and reliable transportation
 - Willingness to work flexible schedule including weekends
 - Bilingual English/Spanish preferred
