This role involves a combination of physical tasks related to moving furniture, equipment, and supplies across various campus buildings, as well as performing routine custodial duties to maintain cleanliness and order. Responsibilities include driving a moving truck, loading and unloading cargo, packing items securely, disassembling and reassembling furniture, using lifting machinery like forklifts and pallet jacks, and handling customer service issues related to moves. Custodial work involves cleaning restrooms, sweeping, mopping, dusting, operating buffers, carpet maintenance, and minor building repairs. Working under moderate supervision with instructions delivered orally or in writing, the Custodian/Mover reports to a custodial foreperson and generally supervises the cleanliness and upkeep of assigned areas. The position demands strong physical ability, including lifting up to 75 pounds regularly and occasional lifting of 100 pounds, standing for extended periods, climbing stairs and ladders, bending, and maneuvering moving equipment. Safety is paramount, with emphasis on proper handling of hazardous materials and custodial chemicals. The role also requires maintaining accurate records of moving activities, coordinating logistics for interdepartmental moves, and occasionally supporting event setups. Candidates for this role should have prior experience in moving techniques and general janitorial or cleaning work, along with sound knowledge of custodial equipment and safe lifting practices. A working knowledge of forklift and pallet jack operation is beneficial but not mandatory. The university requires a valid Texas driver's license preferred and mandates a physical employment exam as part of the hiring process.
