The Alaska Airlines Center (AAC) at the University of Alaska Anchorage (UAA) is a premier 196,000 square foot multi-purpose facility seating up to 5,000 spectators. It hosts a diverse range of events including UAA Seawolves Men’s and Women’s Basketball, Volleyball, and Gymnastics programs, as well as concerts, comedy shows, family entertainment, corporate events, and community gatherings. This venue plays a vital role in bringing together the community and offering memorable experiences. Situated on the Anchorage campus, the AAC is integral to the university’s role as a cultural and sports hub in Alaska. The AAC team is currently seeking a part-time Crowd Management member to join its dynamic staff. This temporary role is essential in creating a safe and secure environment for all events held at the AAC. The Crowd Management member will be responsible for managing crowd ingress and egress, monitoring attendee behavior, enforcing venue and university policies, and responding appropriately to emergencies. They will play a key role in maintaining an orderly and enjoyable event atmosphere for up to 5,000 attendees, prioritizing safety and guest satisfaction alike. The position offers a unique opportunity to work in a lively, diverse environment where interpersonal and communication skills are paramount. Successful candidates will be able to handle stressful situations with patience and tact, exercising professionalism and sound judgment. Previous experience in law enforcement, military service, event management, or security is highly desirable, as is knowledge of safety and emergency protocols. The role requires physical stamina to stand or walk for prolonged periods and flexibility to work evenings, weekends, and holidays based on the event schedule. The Crowd Management role at AAC is a part-time, temporary staff position classified under the UA Temporary Salary Schedule Grade 77 with a starting hourly wage of $20.47. Candidates must be at least 21 years old to comply with Alaska’s state alcohol regulations and hold an active TAPS certification or be able to obtain one before starting. Additional required certifications include FERPA, Title IX, Behavior Based Safety (BBS), and Workplace Harassment Prevention, all to be completed within 30 days of hire. Protecting Payment Card Information training is also mandatory annually.
