This position is for a Custodial Worker at Albany International Airport (ALB). The role is part of the custodial services team and follows all provisions of the SMART/UTU collective bargaining agreement. The Custodial Worker reports directly to the Custodial Services Supervisor and is based at the Albany International Airport location. ALB is a key regional airport providing essential transportation services to the Capital Region of New York, and maintaining a clean and safe airport environment is critical to both passenger experience and operational efficiency.
As a Custodial Worker at ALB, individuals will be responsible for keeping designated airport facilities clean, orderly, and well-maintained. The position involves performing routine and specialized cleaning tasks, including sweeping, mopping, scrubbing, and cleaning windows, offices, hallways, breakrooms, bathrooms, and other public areas. Equipment operation is also a key component of this role. Workers must be proficient in using floor cleaners, vacuums, and other cleaning machinery to ensure the facilities meet hygiene and safety standards.
Inventory management and upkeep of cleaning supplies is part of the job, requiring the Custodial Worker to monitor stock levels and replenish items such as soap and paper dispensers continually. The role also involves handling waste management duties such as emptying trash and garbage containers in a timely and sanitary manner. Reporting any repair needs for building or cleaning equipment to the supervisor is crucial to maintaining the facility in good working order and preventing disruptions.
In addition to cleaning and maintenance work, the Custodial Worker may be required to run errands as necessary and actively participate in the airport’s Total Quality Management programs. This participation supports continuous improvement efforts and ensures service excellence regarding custodial services at the airport.
This position requires an individual with at least a high school diploma or GED, or equivalent related experience. Basic language, mathematical, and reasoning skills are necessary as the job involves following detailed instructions and performing calculations related to work duties. Physical demands are significant in this role, including frequent standing, walking, stooping, kneeling, crouching, and occasional lifting of objects up to 50 pounds. The job also demands good vision abilities and physical coordination.
