The City of Lawrence, Kansas, is seeking an experienced and dynamic professional to serve as the Airport Manager for its Regional Airport. The City of Lawrence is committed to providing high-quality municipal services and fostering economic growth within the region. The Municipal Services & Operations team plays a crucial role in delivering essential services that drive the city's operations forward and support its ongoing development initiatives.
The Airport Manager will join this dedicated team to lead and manage the Lawrence Regional Airport, a vital transportation hub that supports the region's connectivity and economic vitality. This role is both a visionary leadership position as well as an operational executive role responsible for the airport's strategic development and day-to-day operations. The Airport Manager will be tasked with shaping and implementing plans to expand and modernize airport infrastructure while attracting additional economic opportunities to maximize the airport’s regional impact.
Beyond infrastructure, the Airport Manager will oversee regulatory compliance, including FAA and TSA programs, ensuring all operations meet the highest safety and operational standards. Managing leases, real estate development, capital projects, and fostering strong partnerships with the Federal Aviation Administration, Airport Board, tenants, contractors, and the community will be critical responsibilities. This position emphasizes collaboration, strategic execution, and sustained innovation to maintain the airport as a safe, efficient, and forward-thinking gateway for travelers and businesses alike.
The role requires a leader who is adept at managing complex projects, coordinating emergency preparedness and maintenance activities, and advancing economic development initiatives through effective grant management and marketing strategies. With a focus on stakeholder engagement, the Airport Manager will serve as a primary liaison, preparing reports and ensuring excellent customer service to enhance the airport's reputation and operational excellence.
Candidates for this position should possess a bachelor's degree in aviation management, business, public administration, or a related field, with a master’s degree preferred. A minimum of five years of progressively responsible experience in aviation management or related fields is required. Certification from the American Association of Airport Executives is preferred, or the ability to obtain it within two years. FAA certifications such as Pilot Certificates or Airplane and Powerplant Certificates are desirable.
