The role of the Aircraft Maintenance Technician Assistant is an essential entry-level position designed to assist licensed Airframe and Powerplant (A&P) Mechanics in performing preventive maintenance, repairs, modifications, and other maintenance tasks on aircraft, their components, and related equipment. This position requires a commitment to safety and quality while adhering to the industry's standards and regulations. The Assistant will support the maintenance team by executing routine maintenance work under the supervision of certified mechanics, ensuring that all tasks meet or exceed company and regulatory guidelines.
In this role, individuals will be responsible for various aspects of aircraft maintenance, including reading and interpreting manufacturer and airline maintenance manuals, service bulletins, and technical drawings to determine the appropriate methods for repair, replacement, or modifications. Attention to detail is crucial, as the role also involves completing maintenance paperwork accurately, maintaining maintenance records, and performing computer system transactions related to maintenance activities. The position requires strong communication skills to effectively coordinate with coworkers and leadership, making sure that any issues or progress updates are promptly reported.
The role also demands physical stamina and the ability to work in various environmental conditions, such as high places, loud surroundings, and outdoor weather exposure. Candidates must be willing to work flexible hours, including nights, weekends, and holidays to support ongoing 24-hour operations. The job may require travel up to 15 percent of the time, including overnight and weekend trips.
Candidates must have a high school diploma or equivalent, with a minimum of 30 months of concurrent experience in both Airframe and Powerplant ratings. A strong mechanical aptitude and the ability to navigate Microsoft Office applications are essential for success in this role. Prior mechanical experience in a shop environment is preferred. Additional requirements include successfully passing a background check and drug test, having no felony convictions, and maintaining a valid driver’s license with a clean driving record.
