The Part-Time Air Traffic Control Instructor position at the Chicago Air Traffic Control Tower (ORD) represents a vital role within the CTS team. This position supports the FAA’s mission by delivering tailored training services that ensure developmental air traffic controllers and Certified Professional Controllers (CPC) are proficient in their duties. The instructor role is hands-on and dynamic, requiring the delivery of both classroom and simulation laboratory training. The successful candidate will engage with a diverse group of students, mentoring and guiding them to achieve certification and maintain operational excellence.
This position requires a strong foundation of experience as a CPC with live traffic control, preferably with exposure to the Chicago ATCT or similar level facilities. The ATS Instructor is expected to be proficient with current ATC automation and simulation systems and possess the ability to design training scenarios that enhance learning and operational readiness. The role also includes participation in curriculum development, mentorship of Remote Pilot Operators (RPOs), and facilitation of training to industry and FAA standards.
The employment type for this role is part-time, with a salary range estimated between $40,001 and $80,000 annually, reflecting the level of experience and expertise required. The position does not offer remote work and requires presence at the Chicago ATCT facility. The candidate must be a U.S. citizen eligible for and able to maintain a Public Trust clearance.                 - US citizenship with ability to obtain and maintain Public Trust clearance
 - Minimum of five years FAA CPC experience controlling live traffic or recent contract instructor experience
 - Experience at same or higher level ATC facility as Chicago ATCT (ORD)
 - High school diploma or equivalent
 - FAA CPC certification required with ability to obtain Instructor-II simulation laboratory certification
 - Proficiency in current ATC automation and simulation technology
 - Strong communication and interpersonal skills
 - Ability to work part-time during day shift at Chicago ATCT with no remote work
