The Custodian I position in Bassett Unified School District is a critical role responsible for maintaining classrooms, buildings, offices, and various facilities in a neat and orderly condition. Custodians work under the supervision of assigned personnel and carry out cleaning and routine maintenance tasks according to clearly established schedules and procedures. This position operates in both indoor and outdoor environments, often facing exposure to dust, fumes, and odors, requiring good physical stamina and the ability to perform various manual tasks. Working hours are set from 2:00 PM to 10:30 PM, Monday through Friday, providing an after-school shift that supports the District’s operational needs.
Custodians in this role execute a wide variety of duties including washing windows, walls, desks, and benches; polishing metal and wood surfaces; sweeping, scrubbing, mopping, waxing floors; vacuuming and shampooing carpets; and maintaining restrooms by sanitizing fixtures and replenishing supplies. They communicate effectively with school administrators and faculty about special custodial needs or security concerns and maintain routine records related to their work. This position also involves minor maintenance duties such as replacing light bulbs, adjusting desks, repairing furniture, and operating custodial equipment like floor buffers and carpet shampooers.
