This role is designated as Extra Help, meaning it is a temporary employment opportunity with flexible hours that do not exceed 1,559 hours per fiscal year. In this role, you will serve as a frontline representative of the Solid Waste Department, interacting with the public daily in a friendly, courteous, and professional manner. Accurate calculation of disposal charges based on the type of materials, weights, volumes, and vehicle classifications will be a routine part of your duties.
The Refuse Site Attendant will also utilize digital electronic scales to weigh loads, document fees, issue receipts, balance daily cash, and prepare deposit reports in compliance with county procedures. Training new employees on cash handling and the use of county waste management software may also be required. Maintaining detailed logs and fee records, inspecting refuse materials for compliance, responding to public inquiries and complaints, and enforcing site regulations are additional key duties.
Working at the refuse site involves performing tasks in an environment that includes exposure to garbage, dust, and sometimes unpleasant odors. The attendant must ensure the cleanliness and orderliness of the scale house while adhering to safety procedures and maintaining security when handling money. A valid California driver’s license or the ability to obtain one is required for this position.
