Located in District One at 801 N Broadway Ave., Bartow, FL, the FDOT is currently seeking a dedicated full-time Traffic Specialist III to join its Traffic Operations team. This career service position offers an annual salary range between $60,159 and $77,853, with a biweekly pay of approximately $2,769. The Traffic Specialist III plays a crucial role in traffic operations focusing on permit submittal reviews, engineering analysis, and traffic safety enhancements. This position contributes meaningfully to the department's mission by ensuring compliance with state highway system rules, analyzing traffic data, and developing comprehensive engineering reports. The role demands coordination with internal teams and external partners to address operational and safety issues effectively. This specialist will monitor and assist with the review of all permit submittals to the District Traffic Operations office, including adherence to access management permits under State Highway System Connection Permit Rule 14-96 and related classification standards. Responsibilities involve detailed engineering reviews, field assessments, and application of professional engineering judgment to identify and resolve traffic safety and operational problems. Additionally, the role requires active participation in meetings and collaboration with various stakeholders to represent Traffic Operations interests. The Traffic Specialist III is also tasked with ensuring all plan submittals comply with the department’s rigorous safety and design standards to uphold Florida's transportation integrity. The ideal candidate will have comprehensive knowledge of traffic engineering concepts, principles, and analytical techniques, the Manual of Uniform Traffic Control Devices, and FDOT’s standards and guidelines. Proficiency in engineering software and strong communication skills are essential, as the job involves significant data analysis, report generation, and interaction with internal and external personnel. The position requires the ability to interpret engineering plans, make independent decisions, and maintain effective working relationships. Additionally, employees must be prepared to respond promptly to emergency situations as part of the Transportation Emergency Management Team (TEMT).   • A high school diploma and two years of engineering, traffic studies, or traffic safety experience
  • Or an associate degree in computer science, engineering technology, or relevant area with one year of experience
  • Or a bachelor's degree in engineering, computer science, engineering technology, or related area
  • Or successful completion of the Fundamentals of Engineering Exam with Engineer in Training (EIT) certification
  • Or an active International Municipal and Signal Association (IMSA) Sign and Pavement Marking certification
  • Knowledge of traffic engineering principles and analytical methods
  • Ability to use personal computers and engineering software
  • Strong communication skills
