As one of the largest defense contractors, Lockheed Martin delivers solutions that enhance global safety, address the most complex challenges, and drive forward-thinking advancements in aerospace and technology. The Aeronautics Company business unit specializes in developing some of the world's most advanced aircraft and aviation systems, focusing on innovation, quality, and mission success. This role is located at Lockheed Martin's Marietta, GA facility, where the company operates the C-130 Flight Operations team. This team plays a crucial role in the lifecycle of the C-130J aircraft, from assembly through operational deployment. The position is a full-time, first-shift role within test engineering, specifically focused on flight test activities. Lockheed Martin emphasizes flexible work schedules such as a 4x10 hour day schedule with three days off weekly, providing a healthy work-life balance. Relocation assistance is possible, supporting candidates who may move for this opportunity. As a C-130J Test Pilot, you will be at the forefront of flight operations, directly responsible for conducting acceptance check flights on newly assembled aircraft and flight testing modified versions to assess performance, airworthiness, and compliance. This role involves experimental test flying on the C-130J as well as other aircraft types like the C-5M and aircraft from the Air Mobility & Maritime Missions (AMMM) group, contributing critical data to ensure that new capabilities meet rigorous safety and performance standards. Serving as the point where "rubber meets the road" for new aircraft capabilities, you will collaborate with engineers, production staff, and advanced development teams to validate designs and improve operational readiness. Your test pilot duties will include detailed planning, execution, and review of experimental test flights to verify airworthiness and performance capability. You will conduct ground and flight engineering tests, production acceptance check flights, and functional check flights on new or modified aircraft. Additional responsibilities include piloting aircraft for delivery, ferry flights, and airshow demonstrations, working alongside customers, government officials, and media representatives to showcase the aircraft's capabilities. The role also requires piloting input for flight test, production, training, customer support, and business development. You will help define requirements and develop Statements of Work related to testing, production, and engineering support, while participating in safety and design reviews. Developing operational documentation such as Temporary Operating Procedures and Aircraft Operating Limitations is a vital part of this position, alongside reviewing and updating flight manuals. Furthermore, this position offers opportunities to provide classroom, simulator, and in-flight instruction to company and customer aircrew, enhancing pilot proficiency and mission success. Lockheed Martin fosters a culture that empowers employees to innovate boldly and work collaboratively toward a shared mission. The company’s comprehensive benefits, flexible scheduling options, and focus on employee growth make it an excellent place for skilled professionals passionate about aviation, test engineering, and advancing aerospace technologies.
