The role of test pilot at Joby Aviation is a critical and dynamic position within the flight test team, involving direct hands-on responsibilities for planning, executing, and analyzing flight tests of experimental and certified CTOL/VTOL aircraft. This role requires extensive experience with experimental flight testing and deep knowledge of flight test principles adapted to cutting-edge electric aircraft technology. The ideal candidate will possess formal test pilot training or equivalent on-the-job experience, demonstrating flexibility to adapt to innovations in aviation. The test pilot will conduct both inhabited and remote UAV flight tests, serve as chase pilot, participate in simulator testing, and play an integral role in failure modes and effects testing. Support will also be provided during flight readiness and safety reviews and various administrative and engineering flight test duties. The position demands someone who can work collaboratively across engineering, certification, and operational teams, ensuring all FAA and company procedures and regulations are meticulously followed. Compensation for this role includes a competitive base salary ranging between $175,648 and $254,805, complemented by Restricted Stock Units (RSUs) as part of the comprehensive compensation package. • long course graduate of recognized test pilot school or, exceptionally, equivalent on-the-job training
• at least 3 years additional flight test experience post training, with at least 50 hours experimental or certification flight test experience as test pilot
• bachelor's of science degree or equivalent experience and training
• fixed wing and/or rotorcraft commercial certificate
• a minimum of 1,000 hours pilot in command flight time
• excellent interpersonal skills
• ability to work extended hours and travel as required
• read and speak English proficiently
