The role of Tenure Track Assistant Professor of Aeronautics at Charleston Southern University is an exceptional opportunity for individuals passionate about teaching, scholarship, and service within aviation education. The successful candidate will collaborate closely with the Department Chair and Dean to oversee and enhance the Professional Pilot degree program. Responsibilities include managing aviation-related curriculum, administering flight laboratories, and coordinating ground and flight instruction in partnership with flight training contractors. The position demands ensuring full compliance with regulatory guidelines such as those outlined in FAR Part 141, as well as maintaining university policies related to safety, academic standards, and operational procedures. This role will also serve as a vital contributor to curricular development initiatives, flight operations facility improvements, and the advancement of employee training and laboratory safety practices.
Ideal candidates will possess a Master’s degree or higher in aviation, aeronautics, engineering, or a closely related field, complemented by significant professional experience in military or commercial aviation sectors. Credentials like FAA-certified flight instruction, military pilot experience, or expertise in aviation maintenance and management are highly valued. The candidate will be actively involved in teaching courses that prepare students for FAA certificates or military equivalencies, fostering the next generation of aviation professionals. Preferred qualifications include a Doctorate degree, FAA Advanced Ground Instructor and Instrument Ground Instructor certificates, FAA Airline Transport Pilot certification or equivalent military command pilot designation, and experience with various flight training modalities including UAS, rotary wing, aerobatics, or tailwheel. Proficiency in administering FAA Part 141 certified collegiate aviation programs alongside expertise in curriculum software such as Blackboard will enhance the candidate’s effectiveness.

- Master’s degree in aviation, aeronautics, engineering, or a course of study or experience relevant to duties
