The Front Desk Supervisor (FDS) role at Sonesta is a pivotal position within the hotel operations team, aimed at ensuring seamless and efficient front desk management. This role is full-time and offers a competitive base pay starting at $31.22 per hour, with remuneration reflective of the candidate's relevant knowledge, skills, experience, and overall job performance. The Front Desk Supervisor functions not only as a leader to the front desk team but also supports the Operations Manager by assisting with accounting and human resources functions. Acting as the primary point of contact for front desk technology systems and guest marketing initiatives, this position plays a critical role in enhancing guest satisfaction and operational efficiency.
In this role, the Front Desk Supervisor is responsible for training, supervising, and scheduling the front desk staff, ensuring that all associates embody the Sonesta G.U.E.S.T. standards and exhibit a passion for excellent customer service. This involves managing the front desk and reservation operations, securing cash and credit transactions, and maintaining guest information confidentiality. The FDS also oversees room reservation pricing strategies based on market trends, utilizing property management systems such as Opera and Synxis to optimize revenue through occupancy and rate adjustments.
Additionally, the Front Desk Supervisor fosters effective communication channels within the front office, ensures that guest special requests are addressed promptly, and maintains order and appeal in the hotel’s shoppe and bar areas. The role involves implementing service recovery protocols to promptly and professionally resolve guest concerns, registering guests, issuing room keys, and providing key information about the hotel’s services and amenities. Moreover, the FDS regulates compliance with health, safety, and alcohol service laws, and often represents the hotel in the absence of higher management, embodying professionalism and dedication to customer service.
This position demands flexibility as it often requires working mornings, evenings, weekends, and holidays, and involves physical tasks such as standing, bending, climbing, and handling items weighing up to 50 pounds. The ideal candidate will have a high school diploma or equivalent, a minimum of two years of hotel experience—preferably in the extended stay industry—and proficiency in Microsoft Office and Opera systems. Strong communication, organizational, and leadership skills are essential, alongside the ability to obtain ServSafe and potentially TIPS certifications.
