The Front Office Manager (FOM) position at Sonesta represents a critical leadership role responsible for overseeing the daily operations of the hotel. As the onsite leader, the FOM handles multiple facets of operations including the front desk, food service, housekeeping, and administrative business functions. In the absence of the General Manager, the Front Office Manager serves as the face of the hotel and the company, maintaining strong relationships with guests, clients, and team members. This role requires a hands-on approach, focusing on delivering exceptional guest satisfaction, effective expense control, and maintaining high standards of service quality.
The Front Office Manager is responsible for preparing the hotel for daily business operations, ensuring all departments function smoothly and collaboratively. This position involves managing staff training, equipping associates with the necessary tools, and monitoring compliance with corporate standards such as the Sonesta G.U.E.S.T. guidelines. Attention to detail is crucial as the FOM oversees the maintenance and cleanliness of guest rooms and public areas, manages inventory and supplies for food and beverage services, and coordinates repairs and upkeep of hotel facilities.
In addition to operational management, the Front Office Manager plays a vital role in financial controls and reporting. Duties include handling billing and collections, administering accounts receivable, monitoring departmental budgets, and preparing month-end financial reports. The FOM is also charged with ensuring compliance with federal, state, and local regulations, particularly those relating to health, safety, and alcohol service.
Guest satisfaction is a top priority for the Front Office Manager who is expected to respond promptly to guest feedback, concerns, and complaints while fostering a positive environment of teamwork and communication among all hotel staff. This role includes direct involvement in sales through interaction with guests to promote room sales and attending events such as the Evening Social and Breakfast gatherings.
The position requires an individual who can work flexible hours including mornings, evenings, weekends, and holidays. Physical activity such as standing, bending, and moving throughout the facility is frequent, and the ability to lift or carry items up to 50 pounds is necessary. There is also a requirement to obtain ServSafe certification to ensure compliance with food safety standards. The role occasionally mandates travel and mandates a valid driver's license.
The salary range offered for this position is $40.35 to $44.71 per hour, varying based on experience, qualifications, and job-specific skills.                 - Bachelor's degree in hotel administration, business administration or related field preferred
 - Two years of previous supervisory experience preferred
 - Previous background in the extended stay industry preferred
 - Ability to speak, read and write fluent English
 - Professional verbal and written communication skills
 - Mathematical skills including basic math, budgeting, profit/loss concepts, percentages and variances
 - Problem solving, reasoning, motivating, organizational and training abilities
 - Ability to prioritize and organize work assignments
 - Experience with Microsoft Office and Opera systems preferred
 - Ability to travel including some overnight travel is required
 - Valid driver's license required
 - Frequently standing up, bending, climbing, kneeling and moving about the facility
 - Exposure to commercial cleaning chemicals
 - Carrying, lifting or pulling items weighing up to 50 pounds
 - Frequently handling objects and equipment
