This role is that of Supervisory Recreation Specialist (Sports and Aquatics), responsible for the technical and administrative management, supervision, and operation of a broad range of sports and aquatics programs throughout the year. The incumbent is charged with planning, organizing, and leading individual and team sports competitions, intramural leagues, tournaments, and informal recreational activities. These programs are designed to meet the needs and interests of a diverse population, fostering community engagement and supporting the Navy's Morale and Welfare objectives. A significant aspect of this role involves the development and implementation of swimming programs, including swim instructions, competitive swim teams, springboard diving, and water exercise classes, adapting activities to various conditions while ensuring safety and adherence to strict regulations. The specialist manages staff recruitment, training, and motivation, ensuring effective operations and the delivery of high-quality programming. Fiscal responsibility is a core component, entailing the preparation and justification of annual budgets for non-appropriated and appropriated funds, controlling assets, managing supplies, and ensuring financial accountability. The incumbent also takes a proactive role in resolving disputes, enforcing safety protocols, and coordinating with other MWR activities such as Fitness, Information, Tickets & Tours, and Liberty/Single Sailor Programs. This position requires strong leadership skills, resourcefulness, and the ability to adapt to changing needs while maintaining high standards of service and program effectiveness.
