SAIC Controller Training Solutions (CTS) is a leading provider of air traffic controller training services working closely with the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) to ensure the highest standards of safety and efficiency in the National Airspace System (NAS). CTS operates at various FAA air traffic control facilities across the United States, including the New York TRACON (Terminal Radar Approach Control) located in Westbury, NY. The FAA is responsible for the safety and professionalism of more than 14,000 air traffic controllers who manage the safe separation of more than 50,000 aircraft across the NAS every day. SAIC CTS supports this critical mission by delivering comprehensive training and continuous professional development for both new and experienced controllers.
The full-time Air Traffic Control (ATC) Instructor role at New York TRACON (N90) involves providing high-quality classroom and simulation laboratory training for a diverse student base including developmental air traffic controllers and Certified Professional Controllers (CPCs). This hands-on position requires a strong technical understanding of current ATC automation and simulation technologies, such as TSS, AT Coach, and SGET platforms, to effectively deliver instruction and curriculum development that meets FAA standards. The successful candidate will also contribute to mentoring students and Remote Pilot Operators (RPO) and hold the necessary certifications for radar and non-radar simulation training.
This role is pivotal in maintaining the expert level of training needed for the FAA controllers to safeguard air traffic operations within the NAS. Candidates should expect to engage in scenario design, delivery of instructional content, and the assessment of student progress while working closely with FAA personnel at various levels to ensure training aligns with operational and mission requirements. The instructor will need to demonstrate strong classroom management, teaching skills, and a student-focused approach for continuous improvement. Essential credentials include US citizenship with eligibility for a Public Trust clearance, FAA Certified Professional Controller certification, and demonstrated experience at a facility equivalent to or greater than the New York TRACON.
This position does not offer remote work and requires day shift availability. The annual salary range is estimated between $40,001 and $80,000, commensurate with experience and qualifications. Retired Federal Employees Retirement System (FERS) retirees contributing as ATC instructors are exempt from supplemental annuity earnings limits between the ages of 56 and 62, adding an advantageous benefit for eligible candidates. Overall, this career opportunity at SAIC CTS offers a challenging, rewarding environment for skilled air traffic controllers committed to excellence in training and public safety.
