The Space Operations Maintenance Planner role at Virgin Galactic is a vital position within the commercial space operations department. This full-time role, based at Spaceport America in New Mexico, is focused on supporting the maintenance planning necessary to ensure the operational readiness and safety of Virgin Galactic’s flight vehicles. The ideal candidate for this position will bring a blend of aerospace maintenance experience and a strong desire to learn about spaceflight operations, integrating traditional aerospace practices with the unique demands of Spaceline maintenance planning. Responsibilities include planning, scheduling, and coordinating a broad array of maintenance activities, including scheduled, modification, and non-routine tasks, as well as coordinating vehicle relocations. The planner will maintain and track compliance with Original Equipment Manufacturer (OEM) inspection programs and regulatory directives, source and schedule third-party maintenance, and update work package templates in Maintenance, Repair, and Overhaul (MRO) software systems.
The position demands excellent organizational and communication skills to effectively plan resources, labor, and schedules within a fast-paced environment where safety is paramount. Candidates must demonstrate maturity in judgment and an ability to work well under pressure, blending technical know-how with proactive problem-solving. Proficiency in MS Office Suite, MS Project, and MRO Software is essential, along with experience servicing narrow body or business jet aircraft being preferred. The role offers an annual U.S. base salary range of $69,550 to $100,925, with actual compensation dependent on factors such as knowledge, skills, and experience, in addition to potential bonuses and long-term incentives.
