The Sommelier is responsible not only for the sales and recommendation of wines and beverages but also for educating the restaurant staff, ensuring the wine cellar’s organization, and overseeing the overall beverage service on the floor. The Sommelier supports the dining room by providing friendly, courteous, and efficient service tailored to each guest's preferences. This includes making wine recommendations based on meal choices and budgets, resolving any guest concerns related to wine, and building strong relationships with guests by personalizing service and maintaining detailed guest preference notes. The Sommelier acts as a leader on the floor and represents the beverage program professionally and enthusiastically. A significant part of the role involves logistics and behind-the-scenes responsibilities such as monitoring wine deliveries, managing proper storage, and ensuring that the quality of wines and glassware meets the highest standards. They assist with training new hires and existing staff through regular tastings and wine classes, helping to raise the overall knowledge and service quality within the restaurant. Additionally, the Sommelier handles inventory tasks and supports the Beverage Manager with any menu discrepancies or operational concerns. Self-development is also a critical element of this role.
