Joby Aviation is a pioneering aerospace company dedicated to revolutionizing urban air mobility through the development of piloted electric air taxis. Founded in 2009, Joby has steadily advanced its mission to create a sustainable, efficient, and quiet transportation alternative that alleviates urban congestion and enhances the quality of life for its users. The company's innovative approach centers on vertical takeoff and landing (VTOL) technology, enabling aircraft to seamlessly lift off and land in compact urban environments. These air taxis are designed to transport passengers swiftly and comfortably above city streets, providing a unique commuting experience that saves precious time and connects people with the places and individuals that matter most. With numerous generations of prototype aircraft already designed and tested, Joby is focused on certifying its vehicles, scaling manufacturing operations, and launching the first commercial air taxi service. This commitment to innovation and excellence positions Joby as a leader in the emerging electric vertical takeoff and landing (eVTOL) segment of the aviation industry.
The Test Pilot role within Joby Aviation’s Flight Research team is a critical position responsible for operating both crewed and unmanned aircraft systems (UAS) platforms, with a primary focus on the Cessna Caravan program. The ideal candidate will bring deep expertise in flight testing, demonstrated experience piloting crewed and UAS aircraft, and a passion for advancing cutting-edge aviation technologies. This position commands an active role in the developmental and operational flight testing lifecycle, acting as pilot in command and ensuring rigorous adherence to safety and regulatory standards. Embedded within a small, agile team, the Test Pilot will contribute extensively to engineering development activities, including the creation of detailed test plans, execution of complex flight profiles, and thorough post-flight data analysis and reporting. The role requires a hands-on operator who thrives in dynamic environments, collaborates effectively with multidisciplinary teams, and provides actionable feedback to improve aircraft systems, human-machine interfaces, and airspace integration. Located in Concord, CA, the position involves less than 25% travel, including participation in occasional deployed testing and military exercises, reflecting the diverse operational demands of the role. Compensation for this role includes a base salary range of $140,500 to $231,600 per year, supplemented by a comprehensive benefits package and restricted stock units (RSUs), showcasing Joby’s investment in attracting and retaining top aviation talent committed to shaping the future of urban air mobility.
