The role available is a leadership position within United's Network Planning & Alliances team. This team is responsible for designing efficient flight schedules and developing strategic route plans that maximize profitability and optimize capacity across United's domestic network. The position primarily focuses on managing the domestic network planning functions for key coastal hubs such as San Francisco, Los Angeles, and Newark, NJ. The candidate will lead efforts to develop route-level schedule and capacity plans, generate forecasts for new market opportunities, and conduct competitive analyses. This role also involves managing long-term strategic planning for United and United Express domestic network development, mentoring junior team members, and collaborating cross-functionally with departments such as Revenue Management, Cargo, Sales, and Marketing to ensure alignment and the viability of network strategies.
Beyond routine planning, the position requires leading negotiations with airline partners and industry stakeholders to optimize schedules and network benefits, participating in ad-hoc projects supporting senior management, and providing strategic recommendations related to aircraft purchases, retirements, and configurations. The role includes representing United at industry conferences and maintaining alignment with company goals. This position offers a hybrid work arrangement, with about 50% of the time spent onsite at the Chicago office and 50% remote work. The base salary range for this role is $124,735 to $162,388 annually, with eligibility for bonuses and long-term incentive compensation.
Candidates should have substantial airline industry experience, with a minimum of 7 years in related fields and at least 1-2 years of management experience. Strong analytical skills, proficiency in SQL, Excel, and other network planning tools, and the ability to communicate effectively across teams are critical. Preferred candidates possess advanced degrees and leadership experience overseeing major initiatives. - Bachelor's degree
- Minimum 7 years of related experience
- Minimum 5 years of experience in the airline industry and/or experience in Revenue Management, Network Planning, Economics, and/or data analysis
- 1-2 years of management experience
- Knowledge of network planning tools such as schedule manager, profit manager, cost modeling
- Experience with data sources such as MIDT, OAG, ticketing
- Ability to write SQL queries
- Strong knowledge and familiarity with revenue, booking and capacity data sources
- Proficiency in Excel and Microsoft Office
- Complex problem solving through independent critical thinking
- Advanced data manipulation and quantitative analysis skills
- Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment
- Ability to adapt to changing priorities and moving timelines
- Excellent communication and presentation skills
