The Flight Nurse position at Air Methods requires a minimum of 36 months of recent experience in environments such as ICU, ER, Flight, or Critical Care Transport settings within the last five years, reflecting the high level of expertise necessary to succeed in this role. As a flight nurse, you will function as a key member of the Clinical Flight Crew, responsible for assessing, triaging, and treating critically ill or injured patients from the point of contact through transport to the receiving medical facility. You will follow stringent medical protocols and guidelines established by the Air Methods Community Base Services Medical Directors to ensure the highest standards of patient care and safety.
Your work schedule typically consists of two 24-hour shifts per week, highlighting the balance between intensive work periods and downtime. In this role, you are expected to maintain competence in clinical knowledge and skills through ongoing laboratory and clinical training. Documentation, continued education, equipment maintenance, and compliance with aviation safety are all critical components of the job. The Flight Nurse contributes not only by delivering patient care but also by supporting flight operations, participating in mission briefings, conducting aircraft safety checks, and providing education and support to new staff and students.
This role is not supervisory but is challenging and rewarding, requiring outstanding critical thinking, excellent communication, collaboration, and adaptability to shifting priorities in a fast-paced environment. The salary range for this role is competitive, offering between approximately USD 77,750.40 and USD 95,022.72 per year, with a comprehensive benefits package designed to support the diverse needs of Air Methods’ employees.                 - Graduate of an accredited school of nursing
 - minimum of three years recent critical care or emergency nursing experience
 - current RN license(s)
 - EMS or MICN certification as per state regulations
 - current BLS/CPR, ACLS, PALS certifications
 - ability to maintain weight under 225 pounds including flight suit and boots
 - ability to work flexible schedule including overtime and on-call
 - proficient computer skills
 - strong communication and critical thinking
 - willingness to complete specialty certifications within 24 months
 - must meet all training and certification mandates
 - regular attendance
 - ability to travel up to 5 percent
