The Community Youth Center of San Francisco (CYC) is a vital nonprofit organization dedicated to empowering the youth of San Francisco by providing them with a strong sense of belonging and essential tools to succeed in life. Through its comprehensive services, CYC addresses the academic, social, and personal development needs of high-need young people from diverse backgrounds. These services encompass academic support and college counseling, job placement and employment training, substance use and violence prevention education, crisis intervention and mediation, leadership development, technology, and computer training. The available position is for a Program Leader at the CYC Aptos Beacon Center targeting middle school youth, with a part-time schedule of 25 hours per week during the school year and a potential to continue full time during the summer. This role reports directly to the Site Coordinator and offers a competitive hourly wage of $23 to $27. The ideal candidate will be responsible for designing, implementing, and managing a variety of academic and enrichment activities that engage young adolescents through skill-building and project-based learning. The Program Leader plays a crucial role in creating an inclusive and positive learning environment where youth can develop both educationally and socially.
In this role, the Program Leader will be expected to facilitate enrichment activities that span a broad range of interests such as arts (painting, drawing, crafting), mixed sports (soccer, basketball, table tennis, skateboarding), performing arts (drama, voice, dance), cooking, gardening, cultural arts, academic tutoring, career and college awareness, and STEAM-related activities including coding, robotics, game design, and video/music production. These activities are designed not only to engage youth but also to develop their critical thinking, creativity, and teamwork skills. The position requires collaboration with school staff, Beacon staff, parents, and guardians to maintain communication and positive relationships, thereby ensuring a supportive community atmosphere.
Moreover, the role involves program evaluation responsibilities including data collection and report preparation for continuous improvement. The Program Leader must also maintain the program space’s cleanliness and organization, manage classroom behavior using restorative practices, mediate conflicts, and respond appropriately to emergencies. Participation in regular staff meetings and ongoing training opportunities is a key component for professional development and program effectiveness.
This position is ideal for individuals passionate about working with ethnically diverse youth, particularly those who have experienced economic hardship, trauma, or crisis. Candidates who bring bilingual skills in Cantonese, Mandarin, Spanish, or Tagalog will be highly valued. - Bachelor's degree preferred or must have completed a minimum of 48 college units or passed an Instructional Aide Exam
- Knowledge of youth development practices
- One or more years of experience planning and facilitating enrichment activities for youth
- Experience in classroom management, conflict mediation, and restorative practices is a plus
- Experience working with ethnically diverse youth and families who have experienced poverty, crisis, trauma, and other adverse events is a plus
- Ability to develop, implement, and organize programs and special events
- Good organizational, communication and teamwork skills
- Capacity to multitask, work independently, and meet strict programmatic deadlines
- Good technology skills
- Ability to model professionalism and strong work ethic
- Bilingual in Cantonese/Mandarin, Spanish, or Tagalog is preferred
- Able to lift or move at least 25lbs
