The Lead Cook role at Rock City Gardens is a full-time position crucial to supporting the Food & Beverage team’s efforts to maintain optimal kitchen operations. This position reports to the Food & Beverage Manager and acts as a key player in driving the culinary experience to new heights by training and developing kitchen partners, ensuring the highest standards of food quality, safety, and sanitation. With a salary of $19.00 per hour, the Lead Cook will oversee kitchen efficiency, spearhead innovative menu development, and implement operational improvements aimed at boosting sales and minimizing waste.
In this role, the Lead Cook serves as both a leader and mentor, imparting expertise on food preparation, sanitation, and safety best practices. Responsibilities include managing the cleanliness and organization of the kitchen, maintaining food safety compliance in accordance with ServSafe standards, and supervising daily prep work and portion control. The Lead Cook also ensures that all kitchen staff adhere to opening and closing checklists to maintain smooth back-of-house operations. The candidate will be expected to take initiative in creating and managing prep sheets for all food outlets, contributing to streamlined ordering and cost control. Additionally, this role plays a pivotal role in establishing and managing deep-cleaning schedules for kitchen equipment and overseeing a partner lunch program that guarantees consistent quality.
The ideal candidate will have at least two years of experience as a line cook in a fast-paced kitchen environment, with a proven track record of training and coaching other culinary team members. Strong leadership skills, a collaborative mindset, and meticulous attention to detail are essential. Physical stamina is vital as the job involves regular use of hands and arms, lifting up to 50 pounds, and the ability to stand for long periods, walk, stoop, kneel, and crouch as needed. Flexibility in scheduling is also necessary, including nights, weekends, holidays, and special events.
