The role of Event Coordinator at the Michaels store in Richmond-Willow Lawn, VA, involves planning, coordinating, and facilitating a variety of events, including children’s birthday parties and craft classes, to create a stress-free, fun, and engaging experience for guests of all ages. The position requires delivering exceptional customer service by assisting shoppers in finding products, providing solutions, and ensuring a fast and friendly checkout experience. Additionally, the event coordinator performs operational tasks such as unloading trucks, stocking merchandise, and maintaining store recovery standards to uphold Michaels' brand promises. This role is dynamic and demands a blend of customer service, event management, and operational skills. The coordinator will plan and manage multiple concurrent events, engage with participants ranging from young children to seniors, and creatively instruct party activities including craft projects and face painting. They are responsible for facilitating event add-ons such as goody bags and balloons, communicating with clients and team members, completing administrative duties like answering emails and phone calls, and adapting plans based on client feedback. The ability to create backup plans for unforeseen circumstances and uphold the company’s cleanliness and safety standards is essential. Customer experience is a key focus, requiring the coordinator to assist customers in locating products, promote Michaels’ Rewards program and credit cards, support omni-channel processes including Buy Online Pickup in Store (BOPIS) and Ship From Store (SFS), and participate in restocking and store maintenance activities. The role involves cross-training in custom framing selling and production, supporting shrink and safety programs, and maintaining compliance with standard operating procedures and company policies. Candidates should possess excellent people skills, the ability to effectively handle stress, and experience working with children and children’s events. Strong communication in verbal, written, and nonverbal forms, alongside organizational and creative problem-solving skills, are essential. Physically, the job requires standing for long periods, moving throughout the store, performing tasks such as bending, lifting, and carrying, and using ladders to access high shelves.
