Project Kuiper is Amazon's ambitious low Earth orbit satellite broadband network designed to provide fast, reliable internet connectivity to underserved communities and individual customers worldwide. This initiative aims to bridge the digital divide by enabling broadband access in locations where traditional internet service is either poor or non-existent. Through cutting-edge satellite technology and extensive deployment capabilities, Project Kuiper serves a diverse range of users, including households, schools, hospitals, businesses, government agencies, and other organizations that require dependable connectivity in remote or hard-to-reach areas. Amazon’s Project Kuiper is supported by specialized teams that focus on various operational aspects to ensure the successful deployment and ongoing management of the satellite broadband system. Among them is the Kuiper Workplace Operations (KWO) team, which is responsible for managing lab environments, workspace strategies, and facilities operations critical to satellite production and testing. These lab environments are central to the research, development, and testing phases, and therefore demand meticulous operational oversight to maintain efficiency, safety, and compliance. The Lab Operations Area Manager position presents an exciting leadership opportunity within KWO, directly supporting the execution of Project Kuiper’s lab operations strategy. Reporting to the Senior Strategy and Implementation Manager, this role is pivotal in ensuring the smooth functioning of lab environments through both tactical day-to-day management and strategic process execution. The Manager oversees the full lab lifecycle—from intake and planning through coordination to closeout—making certain that workflows are consistent, repeatable, and aligned with organizational goals. This role requires managing operational infrastructure such as intake tracking systems, governance of change requests, workback schedules, and tooling integration. Additionally, the Manager is responsible for conducting process-failure investigations and driving continuous improvements by standardizing operations and gathering feedback from stakeholders. On the tactical side, the Manager acts as the ‘air traffic controller’ for designated lab sites, coordinating equipment moves, layout changes, and upgrades while enforcing safety protocols and access control measures. This involves close collaboration with multiple internal teams, including Design & Construction (D&C), Environmental Health & Safety (EHS), Hardware Engineering, Facilities Management (FM), and others. The ideal candidate is a detail-oriented, hands-on leader with excellent communication and organizational skills, a bias for structured processes, and the ability to manage complex cross-functional stakeholder relationships effectively. Regular responsibilities include conducting lab audits, monitoring asset conditions, maintaining up-to-date safety and training documentation, facilitating meetings, and serving as the central liaison for lab tooling and dashboard development. This role demands adaptability and readiness to support unplanned lab outages or urgent operational needs. By joining Project Kuiper as a Lab Operations Area Manager, you become an essential part of a visionary project that combines technology, operational excellence, and teamwork to expand global internet access. You contribute not only to the technical success of satellite broadband deployment but also to the creation of safe, efficient, and user-friendly lab environments that accelerate innovation and production velocity across the project. This position offers a dynamic work environment with meaningful impact and scope for professional growth within Amazon’s broader infrastructure initiatives.
