The Aquatics Supervisor position at BPRD is a full-time role offering benefits, where leadership, coordination, and supervision are paramount. This role sits within a dynamic Recreation Facilities Leadership team that plays an integral role in delivering aquatics services alongside fitness, wellness, and enrichment programming. The Aquatics Supervisor is tasked with overseeing the day-to-day aquatic operations at facilities including the Juniper Swim & Fitness Center (JSFC) and the Larkspur Community Center-Home of the Bend Senior Center (LCC-BSC).
This supervisory position ensures that aquatic programs meet stringent health and safety standards, deliver outstanding customer experiences, and align with the District’s strategic goals. The role involves managing all aspects of aquatic programming such as staff supervision, training, scheduling, budget management, partnerships, and facility maintenance coordination. This position requires close collaboration not only with aquatic teams but also with customer service representatives, facility shift leads, and the broader Recreation Facilities Leadership team.
The Aquatics Supervisor leads initiatives to enhance current aquatic offerings while innovating new program opportunities tailored to community needs. They maintain an accurate scheduling protocol for aquatic spaces maximizing community benefit including partnerships with community groups and rentals. The role also emphasizes community engagement by nurturing relationships with local organizations, responding to inquiries or concerns, and participating in community meetings.
Marketing and communication are key responsibilities, as the supervisor develops annual marketing plans to effectively promote aquatics programs using newsletters, social media, flyers, and digital boards. They work closely with the Community Relations and Marketing teams to manage communications and elevate the visibility of aquatic facilities and programming throughout the district.
Operationally, the Aquatics Supervisor ensures compliance with public health codes and safety regulations, oversees equipment maintenance, and directs lifeguard certification and training programs. The role demands up-to-date knowledge of aquatics trends and best practices, requiring active participation in relevant regional and national organizations such as the Oregon Recreation and Parks Association (ORPA). Additionally, this role contributes to the broader strategic vision by helping develop assigned sections of operational resources and digital content including web pages and program management software.
The position requires an individual with strong leadership skills capable of providing high-level supervision and managing multiple tasks efficiently. They must foster a positive team environment, encourage professional development among staff, and inspire a culture of high customer service standards. Budget oversight and contract management with vendors and user groups are also critical functions.
Ideal candidates for this position hold an associate’s degree or equivalent college coursework combined with extensive experience in aquatics and supervisory roles. Certifications such as STAR Lifeguard Trainer, StarGuard Instructor Level 2, or Red Cross Water Safety Instructor Trainer are preferred, along with CPR/First Aid certification. The role may require a valid Oregon driver’s license depending on operational requirements.
Working conditions for this position include environmental exposure both indoors and outdoors, the necessity to work varied hours including evenings, weekends, and holidays, and the physical capability to handle equipment and be active around aquatic facilities. - Associate's degree or equivalent two years of college coursework
- Four years of experience in aquatics or similar field
- Two years of supervisory experience
- Strong knowledge of aquatics principles and regulations
- Effective supervision and training skills

- Strong planning, organizational and problem solving skills
- Proficient with Microsoft Office and office equipment
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills

- CPR/First Aid for Professional Rescuer or ability to obtain within 6 months
- Valid Oregon driver’s license within 30 days if operating a vehicle for district business
- Ability to work varied schedules including evenings, weekends, and holidays
- Ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds unassisted
- Ability to work indoors and outdoors in various environmental conditions
