The Receptionist/Administrative Assistant position at American Councils’ Washington, DC Headquarters is a full-time, hourly, entry-level role offering a pay range of $23 to $25 per hour. This non-exempt position is essential as the first point of contact for the organization’s international visitors, callers, and guests. The incumbent’s friendly and efficient management of the reception area ensures that every visitor or phone caller experiences a positive first impression of the organization. Beyond greeting and directing visitors and calls, the Receptionist/Administrative Assistant carries out a broad range of administrative tasks that support the smooth operation of the Washington, DC office.
Key responsibilities include answering and routing incoming calls, assisting callers with identifying the correct point of contact within the organization, monitoring and forwarding incoming faxes and voicemails, and responding to routine inquiries. The role also encompasses greeting visitors, maintaining an organized reception area, updating and distributing internal office information, managing mail and package distribution, booking conference rooms, and assisting with office supply and maintenance issues. This position reports directly to the Office Manager and requires a proactive, dependable individual with excellent communication skills and a strong commitment to customer service. The role demands proficiency in basic office software including SharePoint and the ability to multitask in a busy environment serving a diverse international community.
                - High school diploma or equivalent
 - Previous receptionist or administrative experience preferred
 - Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
 - Proficiency in basic office software such as Microsoft Word and Excel
 - Knowledge of SharePoint is a plus
 - Ability to handle physical tasks including moving packages up to 50 pounds
 - Ability to work full-time on-site with a consistent schedule
 - Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
 - Capability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously and prioritize effectively
 - Willingness to work occasional extended hours to support events
 - Reliable and punctual work ethic
