This position is for a part-time Host role within the restaurant, focused primarily on evening service, totaling about 30 hours per week. The hourly salary for this role is $18.00. As a Host at Herons, you will be the first point of contact for our guests and will play a crucial role in shaping their dining experience. Your responsibilities will stretch beyond traditional hosting duties to include assisting with food and beverage service, maintaining the cleanliness and efficiency of the restaurant, and supporting the overall food and beverage team with various tasks. Your approach to the role must be polished and highly professional, displaying a welcoming and accommodating attitude toward all guests.
The Host position demands excellent interpersonal skills, a positive and composed demeanor even in unexpected situations, and the ability to multitask efficiently in a fast-paced environment. You will be expected to communicate clearly with the team, manage reservations, greet guests warmly, and maintain a calm and sympathetic rapport with guests at all times. Knowledge of the dishes and beverages served at the restaurant is also important, as this will enable you to better engage with guests and enhance their experience. The ideal candidate will possess at least one year of similar experience and have a strong motivation to deliver outstanding hospitality.
In addition to greeting and seating guests, the Host role at The Umstead Hotel and Spa involves performing complementary duties such as bussing tables, running food and beverages, resetting tables, and maintaining a neat and orderly environment. This cooperative team spirit ensures smooth operations and exceptional guest service, embodying the hotel’s ethos of hospitality excellence. Working indoors, with some exposure to outdoor terrace seating, the Host must be physically capable of handling trays, lifting moderately heavy items, and sustaining energy and focus throughout their shift.
