Yale New Haven Health System (YNHHS) is a prestigious and comprehensive healthcare organization dedicated to delivering high-quality patient care with a deep commitment to excellence, compassion, and integrity. Recognized for its patient-centered approach, YNHHS operates multiple hospitals and facilities, providing a wide range of medical services while fostering a supportive, respectful, and accountable work environment. The organization emphasizes values such as integrity, respect, accountability, compassion, and a patient-centered mission that guides every member of the team in their professional and personal conduct. YNHHS strives to create a workplace where employees not only contribute to exceptional healthcare delivery but also grow in their careers and engage in continuous learning and development. This position is designed for individuals who wish to play a pivotal role in supporting patient food service operations within the hospital setting. The role involves performing a variety of tasks crucial to the timely and accurate assembly and delivery of patient meal trays, as part of the Dining on Call (DOC) patient meal service program. Employees in this capacity are responsible for delivering, picking up, and occasionally assisting patients with their nourishment needs, ensuring meals are provided accurately and within scheduled times. The station or zone assignments may vary according to scheduling demands, meal volumes, and operational needs, requiring flexibility and the ability to float between different service areas during shifts. Being a part of the YNHHS patient food service team means playing an essential role in patient satisfaction and overall care quality. The individual in this role must cultivate a friendly, professional demeanor when interacting with patients, visitors, and other hospital staff. Sensitivity to patient needs and prompt resolution of food service concerns are key aspects of maintaining the hospital’s high standards as reflected in internal and external quality surveys. The Hospital Activities portion of the job includes effective communication, participation in mandatory training and meetings, and adherence to hospital policies and safety protocols. Non-patient care activities involve maintaining a sanitary working environment, applying safe chemical usage practices in line with MSDS guidelines, and presenting a neat, professional appearance. The employee is expected to demonstrate knowledge and compliance with infection control and patient safety standards, including emergency preparedness, hazard waste management, and life safety drills. Responsibilities also extend to maintaining security protocols by wearing identification and minimizing security incidents. Critical to success in this role is the ability to manage patient trays efficiently, ensuring timely delivery and correct meal selections confirmed by patient identification checks. The role demands good customer service skills, basic mathematical ability for simple computations, and the physical capacity to push and pull food carts and carry supplies weighing up to 50 pounds at times. Overall, this position is not only about delivering food but also about enhancing the patient experience, advocating for their nutritional needs, and supporting the hospital’s mission of compassionate and accountable care. Employment is covered under the Teamsters Collective Bargaining Agreement with an hourly wage range starting at $16.35 up to $25.95, reflecting the importance and responsibility of the role within the hospital’s multidisciplinary team.
