The City of Pismo Beach is currently seeking Part-Time Visitor Information Center Hosts to join their team under a temporary, part-time employment arrangement. This role offers an hourly wage of $20.70 and averages up to 19 hours per week, with a work schedule that may include weekends and evenings, accommodating the dynamic nature of events and visitor demands. The position is ideal for individuals who enjoy an active role in visitor engagement, providing information, and contributing to the success of city events. The role is not eligible for retired annuitant status nor traditional employee benefits, except as mandated by law, including 40 hours of paid sick leave per calendar year for part-time employees.
As a Visitor Information Center Host, you will be the welcoming face of Pismo Beach, stationed at the airstream location on the downtown promenade. Your primary responsibility will be assisting visitors by providing accurate information about local attractions, events, amenities, and city services, ensuring every guest feels valued and informed. This role requires a high degree of professionalism, self-motivation, and the ability to work independently in a fast-paced, public-facing environment. You will also play a crucial role in supporting city-sponsored events from setup through breakdown, maintaining a presence throughout events to assist visitors and contribute to their overall positive experience.
Your tasks will involve greeting and assisting visitors, managing visitor information publications, responding to inquiries both in person and by phone, and performing various clerical duties to support the Conference & Visitor's Bureau's functions. Additionally, you will act as a liaison between visitors, local businesses, and the city government, fostering community connections and ensuring smooth communication. This multifaceted role is essential to the city's tourism infrastructure and contributes significantly to promoting Pismo Beach as a welcoming destination.
To succeed in this role, candidates should demonstrate excellent customer service skills, effective communication, and the ability to handle multiple tasks efficiently. Knowledge of basic computer software and the capacity to organize itineraries or assist with assembling informational packets is beneficial. - Possession of a valid Class C California driver's license
