This position is focused on frontline customer service within the grocery retail environment, providing associates an opportunity to engage directly with customers and support the overall store operations.
The Customer Service Associate role is pivotal in maintaining Food Lion's commitment to excellent customer service. This role requires individuals to deliver fast, easy, flexible, and friendly service by adhering to Food Lion’s customer service standards. The position supports the Customer Service Manager and the Assistant Customer Service Manager by ensuring activities in the front end area align with the Front End Standard Practice Manual. This involves delivering positive shopping experiences by greeting customers warmly, assisting with unloading groceries, operating cash registers efficiently, and handling various payment transactions securely and accurately.
In addition to excellent communication skills and a customer-focused attitude, the role also requires associates to be cooperative team members who maintain a neat and clean work environment, wear the proper Food Lion uniform, and follow all company policies and guidelines. Responsibilities extend to checking the accuracy of prices, performing refunds or error corrections, and maintaining cash controls. Physical tasks such as retrieving shopping carts, standing for extended periods, and handling products of varying weights are also part of the job. Training is provided through computer-based courses to ensure associates are well-equipped to meet the technical and service demands of the position.

- High school diploma or equivalent preferred
- Previous experience in customer service or retail is beneficial
- Must be able to perform repetitive hand and arm motions
- Ability to bend and lift products weighing up to 15 lbs continuously, 25 lbs frequently, and 50 lbs on occasion
- Ability to pull or push up to 75 lbs on occasion
- Must be able to stand 100% of the time with frequent walking short distances
- Ability to use computers and other communication systems required to perform job functions
- Must have sufficient visual ability to check ID cards, checks, invoices and other written documents
- Must be able to tolerate working in extreme hot or cold temperatures for up to 20 minutes
- Must meet minimum age requirements to perform specific job functions
- Must be able to meet physical requirements, with or without reasonable accommodations
