The organization is currently seeking to hire a Cook for the Calder Woods community located in Beaumont, TX. This is a PRN (pro re nata) or occasional employment opportunity requiring a minimum commitment of two shifts every 60 days, with each shift lasting 8 hours. The Cook will play an integral role in the culinary services, responsible for preparing food items for breakfast, lunch, and/or dinner using standardized recipes developed to meet or exceed Buckner's quality, service, and hospitality standards. This position requires the incumbent to ensure that all meals are not only nourishing and appetizing but also delivered with a high level of care and professionalism that enriches the dining experience for the residents. The Cook will manage various aspects of meal preparation, including reviewing menus, selecting appropriate ingredients, and organizing supplies to ensure timely and efficient service. They are responsible for monitoring the quality of food in terms of taste, smell, appearance, and temperature throughout meal production. Additionally, the role involves maintaining meal counts, documentation records, and food inventory management to optimize food costs and minimize waste. The Cook must comply with safety standards and regulatory guidelines concerning food handling and sanitation, guaranteeing a safe and clean kitchen environment. Encouragement and adherence to cost-effective cooking practices also ensure that resources are utilized efficiently. This role is physically demanding, often requiring the ability to lift weights up to 100 pounds occasionally and perform tasks involving standing, walking, bending, and other movements for more than 75 percent of the shift. Candidates must hold a State Issued Food Serve Certification and have at least one year of related experience. A high school diploma or GED is also required.
