The custodial worker is expected to follow strict OSHA guidelines to safely handle cleaning chemicals and maintain various types of cleaning equipment. This ensures not only the cleaning standards are met but also the health and safety of themselves and others. Additional duties include replenishing cleaning supplies, conducting routine inspections for cleanliness and maintenance issues, reporting discrepancies to the supervisor, and assisting with emergency cleanups as they arise. The position requires a friendly and professional demeanor, as well as the ability to adhere to security protocols and safety procedures at all times. The custodian maintains positive working relationships with other building staff, which is critical for smooth operational efficiency. Physically, this job demands the ability to lift up to 50 pounds safely, withstand various environmental conditions such as heat, cold, rain, and wind when working outdoors, and perform tasks that involve standing for long periods. Navigating stairs and small or confined spaces is also a routine part of the daily work. The candidate must have adequate vision (with corrective lenses if necessary) and be able to communicate clearly in English to effectively interact with supervisors, coworkers, and others. This role includes completing work orders accurately and being responsive during emergencies.
