Reno, NV, USA, NV Part-Time $17 - $20
Schaffers Camp, operated under the Tahoe Mountain Club (Tahoe Club Company, LLC and Tahoe Club Employee Company, Inc.), is a distinguished hospitality establishment located in the scenic region of Truckee, California. Known for its dedication to exceptional guest experiences, Schaffers Camp serves as a seasonal destination that combines outdoor winter activities with a welcoming dining and lodge environment. The camp operates primarily during the winter season, ensuring that every guest enjoys a safe and inviting atmosphere while they partake in the recreational opportunities available in this picturesque mountain locale. The Tahoe Mountain Club prides itself on fostering a respectful, inclusive, and professional workplace environment in line with equal employment opportunity policies, emphasizing zero tolerance for harassment or discrimination of any kind. Schaffers Camp is committed to providing reasonable accommodations for qualified individuals with disabilities, ensuring accessibility and fairness across their workforce. This position is hourly, with a competitive wage range of $17.00 to $20.00 per hour, reflecting the importance of the role within the facility's operational team. The club acknowledges the fluctuating demands of its daily operations, requiring flexibility and a willingness to undertake various responsibilities as needed. The role of Porter at Schaffers Camp is pivotal to maintaining the high standards of cleanliness, safety, and aesthetic appeal throughout the front-of-house (FOH) areas during the winter season. As the first line of defense in guest comfort and safety, the Porter ensures that all entryways, dining areas, restrooms, walkways, and public spaces remain impeccably clean and hazard-free. The duties extend beyond routine cleaning; given the snowy environment, significant emphasis is placed on snow and ice removal from all outdoor guest touchpoints including building entrances, decks, gondola landings, emergency exits, and walkways to uphold accessibility and guest safety. Porters are expected to arrive prepared and punctual for daily briefings and to sustain effective communication with supervisory staff such as the FOH/BOH Manager, Restaurant Supervisor, or Manager on Duty depending on their shift. They also maintain the cleanliness equipment and supply inventory, perform deep cleaning projects on a scheduled basis, manage waste disposal promptly, and assist with logistics related to furniture and special event setups. A proactive eye for maintenance issues and basic repair skills such as changing light bulbs are required, alongside strict adherence to all health, safety, and sanitation protocols including the correct handling of chemicals. This role demands a resilient and adaptable individual who can perform physically demanding tasks such as lifting heavy loads (up to 50 lbs. regularly and occasionally up to 100 lbs.), operating snow removal equipment, and working in challenging outdoor cold and snowy conditions. Additional physical requirements include walking on snow-covered terrain, riding the gondola for commute purposes, and enduring exposure to wet environments and confined spaces. Safety training, including Bloodborne Pathogen Training, Heat Illness Prevention, Workplace Violence Prevention, and Harassment Prevention Training, is mandatory and provided by the club. Successful candidates typically possess prior experience in porter, janitorial, or custodial roles and demonstrate strong communication and teamwork abilities, with English proficiency required and Spanish language skills considered a plus. The position requires availability for varied shifts, including weekends and holidays, emphasizing the importance of reliability and teamwork during peak operational periods or emergencies. Overall, the Porter role at Schaffers Camp is integral to delivering an exceptional guest experience by ensuring the environment is safe, clean, and welcoming throughout the winter season.
