The role of the Pilot Instructor at FlightSafety International is a critical component of the company’s mission to provide top-tier pilot training. This position focuses on delivering comprehensive ground-based training to C-17 pilots, using an established Training System (TS) curriculum tailored to cover all necessary facets of flying the C-17 aircraft. The Pilot Instructor is entrusted with instructing and evaluating the progress of crewmembers in procedures such as air drop, aerial refueling, and transport operations. By utilizing a range of training devices, including the Weapon System Trainer (WST), the actual C-17 aircraft, and Computer-Based Trainers (CBT), the instructor ensures that trainees receive the highest level of instruction and preparation. Additionally, the role involves maintaining a deep and current knowledge base of operational and instructional techniques, conducting briefings and debriefings, and providing personalized counseling to enhance pilot proficiency.
Beyond instruction, the Pilot Instructor is responsible for a variety of administrative tasks critical to the smooth functioning of training programs. This includes maintaining detailed records, monitoring student progress, contributing to the development of courseware, and implementing necessary updates to training policies and procedures. Flying the Weapon System Trainer and occasionally observing flights in the airplane are essential duties to keep technical skills sharp and stay aligned with operational changes. The role also extends to serving as a subject matter expert (SME), flight check airman (FCA), evaluator for the Community College of the Air Force (CCAF), and participating in simulator certification and evaluation processes.
The position demands a professional with at least a bachelor's degree and significant flying experience, particularly with the C-17 aircraft, including air drop and aerial refueling operations. A minimum of eight years’ flight experience with five years on the C-17, along with a proven track record as a flight instructor, is required to meet the company’s rigorous standards. The successful candidate must possess excellent communication skills, fluency in English, and familiarity with instructional principles and computer software applications relevant to training management. An active SECRET Security Clearance is also required.
The working conditions for the Pilot Instructor involve a dynamic environment with varying physical demands, including frequent ingress and egress from simulators and aircraft, occasional exposure to extreme weather, and the need to lift or move moderate weights. Safety, security, and hazardous materials responsibilities are part of the role, reflecting FlightSafety International’s commitment to maintaining a secure and compliant training operation.
FlightSafety International is an Equal Opportunity Employer committed to diversity and inclusion, ensuring fair treatment and consideration for all applicants regardless of race, color, religion, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity, national origin, or disability.
