The Part-time Cafeteria Attendant position at Boston Teachers Union K-8 Pilot School is a vital role within the Food and Nutrition Services (FNS) department. This role is designed for individuals who are passionate about maintaining safe food preparation and serving practices in a school setting. Working 7 hours per day from 7 AM to 2 PM, the attendant will support the cafeteria operations by preparing food safely, serving meals, cleaning and sanitizing kitchen equipment and work areas, and assisting with record-keeping tasks as assigned by the Cafeteria Manager. This role helps ensure that students receive nutritious meals in a clean and safe environment.
The position is an anticipated vacancy expected to be open by the start of the school year 2025-2026 (SY2526). However, the current incumbent has the right to rescind their retirement, leave, or resignation until the vacancy date. If the position is not vacated by the start of the school year, the selected candidate may begin the year as a Long-Term Substitute. The role is part-time, classified as a Cafeteria Attendant under the Boston Teachers Union. The job location is 25 Walk Hill Street, Boston, MA, and the attendant will report directly to the Cafeteria Manager.
The Cafeteria Attendant plays a critical support function by efficiently performing food preparation, serving, and cleaning duties within the cafeteria. They will work collaboratively with fellow staff to maintain sanitary conditions, ensure food safety standards, and follow all policies mandated by the Boston School Committee and Cafeteria Management. Responsibilities also include operating kitchen equipment safely, assisting with food portioning, washing dishes and dining room tables, unpacking supplies, and stocking shelves.
Ideal candidates must have a high school diploma or GED and authorization to work in the United States by their first day. Preference is given to those with a ServSafe Food Handlers Certificate, emphasizing safe food handling practices.
