It emphasizes inclusivity, ensuring that diverse populations feel welcome and represented in city-run activities and amenities. The Parks Division supports career growth and values the contributions of individuals from various educational and experiential backgrounds, recognizing that each person's unique skills add valuable perspectives to their team. The Winter Attendant and Special Event Attendant positions within the Parks Division offer flexible employment with an intermittent work schedule, ranging approximately from 0 to 40 hours per week. These roles require availability to work weekdays, evenings, nights, weekends, and holidays, with hours varying based on outdoor weather conditions and event schedules. The hourly classification allows for a dynamic work environment where employees handle a variety of responsibilities, particularly in customer service and facility maintenance. They also operate concessions and handle equipment cleaning and stocking. Meanwhile, Special Event Attendants focus more on preparing and managing setups and breakdowns for a diverse range of city events, providing essential support to event coordinators and ensuring smooth operations. A valid driver's license is required for those age 18 and older who operate city vehicles, although vehicle operation is not mandatory for all attendants. The City of Madison encourages applications from candidates aged 15 and older, supporting youth employment and offering opportunities for young individuals to gain valuable work experience. Those who are 14 but will turn 15 by January 17, 2026, are also eligible to apply, though work scheduling will commence only after reaching the age requirement. Madison values diversity, equity, inclusion, and belonging, actively encouraging applications from Black, Indigenous, people of color, women, trans, nonbinary individuals, and people with disabilities.
