Mount Carmel Health System, a member of Trinity Health, has been a cornerstone of healing and healthcare in Central Ohio for over 135 years. With a commitment to providing exceptional medical services, the organization serves over 1.3 million patients annually across its five hospitals, free-standing emergency centers, outpatient facilities, surgery centers, urgent care centers, and a variety of primary care and specialty physician offices. Mount Carmel College of Nursing, part of the Health System, boasts one of the largest nursing programs in Ohio offering undergraduate, graduate, and doctoral degrees. The organization emphasizes a culture of care that honors the dignity of every person and values the unique perspectives and talents of its colleagues. Mount Carmel is dedicated to fostering an inclusive environment, promoting diversity, equity, and inclusion through various colleague resource groups, and maintaining status as an Equal Opportunity Employer. This Paramedic position is part-time, involving a 12-hour day shift from 7 am to 7:30 pm with rotating weekends and holidays. The role is unique in that it requires sharing time between the Emergency Departments at Mount Carmel Grove City and Mount Carmel Franklinton. The primary purpose of this role is to provide comprehensive patient care in alignment with the organization’s mission and guiding behaviors. The Paramedic functions within established standards, policies, procedures, and organizational guidelines. The position entails delivering care sensitive to the physical, emotional, social, and spiritual needs of patients. The Paramedic is responsible for initiating various respiratory interventions, including oxygen therapy and assistance with intubation preparation. This role also involves inserting and discontinuing intravenous and intraosseous lines, interpreting cardiac rhythms, and administering appropriate treatments such as CPR and defibrillation. Responsibilities extend to transporting and monitoring stable telemetry and non-telemetry patients and maintaining professional communication using radio systems with incoming EMS units. In addition to direct patient care activities delegated by registered nurses, the Paramedic must follow approved standards for treatments and procedures, verify and implement physician or licensed independent practitioner orders, and administer medications accordingly. The position demands readiness to initiate emergency procedures under appropriate medical direction and maintain proper patient identification protocols. Paramedics in this role will be involved in specialized tasks such as performing visual acuity tests, eye irrigations, equipment setups, and CLIA-waived testing. Skills in phlebotomy, laboratory specimen collection, wound care, sterile technique, suture and staple removal (except facial), Foley care, and orthopedic duties are also required. Participation in trauma, stroke, STEMI, sepsis alerts, and resuscitation efforts is integral to the position. Additionally, the Paramedic may engage in hazardous materials response or disaster event activities as needed, and assist with triage processes including facilitating door-to-EKG benchmarks. Mount Carmel Health System offers a competitive employment package that includes benefits starting from day one, such as medical, dental, and vision coverage, retirement savings with employer match, generous paid time off, tuition reimbursement, relocation assistance where applicable, and unique programs like DailyPay that allow employees early access to their earned wages. The organization is recognized by Forbes as one of America’s Best State Employers and strongly supports professional growth and community engagement through employee recognition and development programs.
