The Flight Nurse position within Air Methods' Float Pool team offers an exciting and dynamic opportunity for registered nurses with critical care and flight experience who desire the flexibility to work in multiple base locations. This role involves supporting various flight teams to deliver comprehensive medical care during flights, making critical decisions in high-pressure scenarios while ensuring safety protocols are rigorously followed. The job entails providing advanced nursing care from initial patient contact through transport to the accepting medical facility, maintaining critical care competencies, and collaborating effectively with EMS providers, hospitals, and multidisciplinary teams. The position requires a willingness to travel extensively—up to 85 percent of the time—and the ability to adapt to different operational bases, evidenced by a flexible work schedule that follows 24-hour shifts assigned several weeks in advance by centralized scheduling.
Candidates are required to have a minimum of one year of full-time flight nursing experience and hold a CFRN certification, underscoring the essential qualifications for ensuring patient safety and care excellence at altitude and in-flight environments. A Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) is preferred, and current RN licensure in applicable states is mandatory, with a compact nursing license favored to enable interstate flexibility. Extensive recent experience in critical care or emergency nursing underpins a nurse’s ability to manage complex cases during transport. The Flight Nurse also plays a vital role as a liaison and educator within the team, contributing to clinical education efforts, safety training, and patient follow-up activities. This role comes with competitive pay ranging approximately from $89,406.72 to $109,274.88 per year and offers opportunities for professional growth and development within a respected national organization.
