Southwest Airlines is one of the most recognized and admired airlines in the United States, known for its commitment to providing affordable, reliable, and friendly air travel experiences. Established as a major low-cost carrier, Southwest Airlines has built its reputation on a culture that values employees as much as customers, fostering a work environment that emphasizes respect, creativity, learning, and innovation. With a strong focus on safety, customer service, and efficiency, Southwest continues to lead the industry with a unique approach that prioritizes the well-being and growth of both its employees and its passengers. The airline operates a comprehensive network within the United States and select international destinations, maintaining a dedication to connecting people to what matters most in their lives with a welcoming and hospitable approach. The Operations Agent role at Southwest Airlines represents a vital position within the Ground Operations department. This part-time opportunity requires an individual who thrives in a dynamic, fast-paced environment where teamwork and communication are essential. Operations Agents serve as key coordinators responsible for ensuring the smooth and timely departure of flights by managing various logistical and operational tasks "above the wing." This includes handling the final weight and balance details of aircraft, facilitating efficient boarding procedures, and collaborating closely with ramp crews, gate agents, and other airport personnel. The role demands an individual who provides legendary customer service, representing Southwest’s commitment to hospitality for both internal teams and external customers daily. This position offers a competitive hourly wage starting at $20.40, with possibilities for overtime and future wage increases based on seniority and collective bargaining agreements. Training for new hires spans 4 to 6 weeks, involving both classroom instruction and on-the-job learning, preparing candidates for the variety of responsibilities that define an Operations Agent’s daily operations. These professionals work part-time schedules that typically include 32 hours over five days, though shifts may vary and require flexibility to include early mornings, late evenings, weekends, and holidays based on a seniority-driven bidding process. The job demands physical endurance, with duties such as lifting heavy objects up to 70 pounds, frequent climbing, bending, kneeling, and standing for extended periods, and operating boarding bridges safely and effectively. To qualify for this role, candidates must be residents of Texas, authorized to work in the United States, and possess a valid state driver’s license. Additional airport security clearances and badges will be required for specific duties such as working with international flights or accessing secure areas. Southwest Airlines places great importance on maintaining a respectful and diverse workplace and hiring practices free from discrimination based on race, gender, age, nationality, or any other legally protected characteristic. Employees enjoy a supportive work environment that promotes personal and professional growth, reflecting Southwest’s promise to provide stability, equal opportunity, and a culture of care both internally and in customer interactions. By joining the team as an Operations Agent, individuals become part of a passionate community that works diligently behind the scenes to connect lives and keep the airline flying safely and efficiently every day.
