The Director of FAA Training Programs is a critical senior leadership role within FlightSafety International. This position entails comprehensive oversight and strategic leadership for business development, capture, and proposal activities specifically targeting Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) Air Traffic Controller (ATC) training programs. Initially focusing on pursuing new business opportunities, the role transitions into program management responsibilities post-award, ensuring seamless execution and operational success of FAA ATC training contracts.
Candidates for this role are expected to bring a deep understanding of the FAA ecosystem and a thorough knowledge of ATC training methodologies. The Director will be instrumental in managing complex relationships involving federal agencies, prime contractors, subcontractors, and labor unions, navigating a multifaceted landscape to maximize program performance. The role demands a strategic thinker skilled in leading integrated project teams and managing networks of specialized consultants, while driving growth initiatives aligned with FlightSafety’s long-term business objectives.
Day-to-day responsibilities include conducting strategic market analysis to identify customer needs, competitive pressures, and growth opportunities, as well as developing and executing comprehensive business development strategies. The Director oversees bid processes, establishes strategic partnerships across the industry, and leads long-term planning and market positioning efforts. Effective communication with senior FAA leadership and key stakeholders is essential, extending to educational institutions like the FAA Academy and various operational FAA units.
In addition to business development, the Director manages proposal quality, technical solutions in collaboration with engineering teams, and integration of innovative training technologies and methodologies. Oversight of subcontractor relationships, consultant networks, and lessons learned from existing programs form part of the continuous improvement and strategic alignment of FlightSafety’s FAA-related training programs.
This leadership position requires not only extensive experience in federal program capture and account management, particularly within simulation, aviation, or defense sectors, but also strong technical acumen related to simulation technologies and long sales cycles. The Director should possess exceptional organizational skills, critical thinking capabilities, budgeting acumen, and leadership qualities to inspire teams and drive success. - Bachelor’s degree in business administration, engineering, or related degree/experience
- Advanced degree in business with coursework in strategy is preferred
- 10+ years of successful experience in Federal Program/Capture or similar discipline
- Proven ability to lead and develop direct reports as well as cross-functional resources
- Seven years of experience in account management, preferably in simulation, visual systems, defense, or aerospace
- Deep understanding of military aviation training requirements, procurement processes, and proposal development
- Strong technical aptitude with ability to grasp complex simulation technologies
- Experience managing long sales cycles and multi-stakeholder relationships
- Ability to fluently read, write, speak, and understand English
- Excellent communication abilities across technical and non-technical audiences
- Critical thinking, analysis, and ability to develop and implement solutions
- Ability to negotiate effectively with stakeholders, manage conflicts, and reach mutually beneficial agreements
