WYDOT is currently seeking a full-time Pilot to join their team in Cheyenne to support state transportation operations. This permanent full-time role is non-exempt under the Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA) and offers an hourly wage of $49.84. The position includes a $2,000 hiring bonus for eligible candidates. As a Pilot, the individual will be responsible for serving as Pilot-in-Command or Second-in-Command operating single and multi-engine turbine jet-powered aircraft. Essential duties include flying photogrammetric equipped aircraft along designated flight paths, supporting state photogrammetry and survey missions, navigating complex multi-air traffic environments, and ensuring fuel-efficient flight profiles. This role requires operation in varying weather conditions, both day and night. The pilot will also manage flight planning activities such as drafting flight plans, recording flight data, coordinating passenger loading, and ensuring weight and balance compliance. Additionally, the pilot maintains and updates all flight/aircraft publications, manuals, and flight management software to ensure operational readiness. Fitness for flight status and availability during unassigned times are also crucial to maintain rapid response capabilities.
Candidates must meet minimum qualifications that include holding a commercial pilot's license with instrument rating for single and multi-engine airplane, accumulating 2,000 hours total flying time with at least 1,000 hours on fixed-wing aircraft, and having significant experience flying as pilot-in-command. A first-class medical certificate is required. A Bachelor’s degree is preferred, but candidates with 3-5 years of progressive piloting work experience may qualify through education and experience substitution. Preference will be given to pilots possessing an Airline Transport Pilot (ATP) license, CE-500 type rating, and a first-class medical certificate. The position demands availability seven days a week and an annual flight commitment of 200-300 flight hours. This role is vital for supporting Wyoming’s transportation infrastructure and requires a responsible, skilled, and safety-conscious pilot who can contribute effectively to WYDOT’s operational goals.
